Over the last few classes, Mrs. Susana González and the ESO1 group have progressed on from prehistoric times and have begin discussing the world's first great civilisations: Egypt and Mesopotamia. With the knowledge that the class has learned so far, Susana led an innovative activity this past week where the students had to review the similarities and differences between these two great early civilisations, leveraging a Venn Diagram to provide a visual depiction.
First, the students independently created their individual Venn Diagrams, using their notes and their book to fill in the page. The students analysed the social, political, and economic differences between the two civilisations, which differed in several surprising ways. Below are some of the examples of what the students created.
Afterward, the students came together to reconcile the differences among their individual Venn Diagrams and create one singular diagram for the class. The students patiently listened to what their peers put and did their best to ensure that everyone's ideas fit within the group diagram. Additionally, the students took ownership of their group diagram and collaborated together, which demonstrated excellent leadership and teamwork skills.
