Project Based Learning: Alice in Wonderland (ESO3)

The students of ESO3 have started working in the Literacy class in a Project that unfolds with the analysis of a film: "Alice in Wonderland". So the first step is watching the film; but, what can film add to the learning experience? Kieran Donaghy, who won the British Council’s TeachingEnglish blog award explains in https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/ that film is such a good resource for the literacy class. There are a number of reasons, he states, why film is an excellent teaching and learning tool:
  • Learning from films is motivating and enjoyable
  • Film provides authentic and varied language
  • Film gives a visual context
  • Variety and flexibility.
While working on this project, our students will develop certain skills, and understanding: They will understand that films can be subject to deep and broad interpretation in a variety of ways — that there is no single right answer and that the textual evidence (they will role-play some dialogues from the actual book "Alice in Wonderland", by Lewis Carroll) can lead to multiple destinations. In addition our students will be comfortable with nonsense and complex textual jokes, and they will be able to interpret puns and puzzles. They will became "language analysers".

I may buy some pop-corn for the next session!
