Has learning English changed the way you think? #SomeFoodForThought

It is my belief that using a second language to communicate/study shapes the conceptual world behind the actual language.

Has learning English changed the way you think? How?

From my point of view, learning english involves another culture and customs apart from the grammar and vocabulary that are attached to the subject. And even if we get into its more theoretical aspect with rules to memorize, it is still a new way of communicating, another way to understand the language.
So in conclusion, I should say that although learning english has opened doors in my mind, it just expands my way of thinking, indeed, it doesn’t change it.

I think my way of thinking hasn't change a lot because of the way I speak English or because I've learnt English but because I've been learning English since I was a kid aand my way of thinking has changed through the years. As I use English daily I forgot about some words of one of the two languages and if we add the German, my brain sometimes can't think in just one language.

  13. Being honest, learning english doesn´t change my way of thinking because I express my own ideas in spanish and in english in the same way. It´s true that learning this language has given to me many things like new traditions of other culture that isn´t like mine. However, this doesn´t change the way I think.

In my opinion, English has not changed my way of thinking too much. I have learnt a thousand words, and maybe I get confused when I think, because sometimes, out of inertia, I do it in English. So it's difficult to combine two languages, but you get used to it.

  27. I' have seen a lot of comments on the blog saying that their way of thinking hasn't really changed while learning English because they started learning from a young age, but in my case, although I as well have been learning this language at school since I was very little, I have to say that English has shaped my way of thinking lots of things and it still does everyday. For example, one of the things that I understand better now are the similar words we have i English and Spanish and how they come from the same roots and also the relationship in general between grammar and other structures from different languages.
Other thing that I have found really interesting is how much learning a language can help you to understand better a country's culture.

And I also believe that English is the 'official language' of the world, since almost everyone who knows a language other than their mother tongue is English..

As I see it, learning English has definitely changed the way I think and express myself. Although it is true that the language I use the most is Spanish, as it is my mother tongue, English has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and get to know not only a different culture but a whole new world of possibilities. We have to admit that we live in a world where English powers the world, you can go to almost any country, and you will find a lot of people who are able to speak the language for sure. That's why knowing how to handle myself in this language has allowed me to learn a lot of different things, that I wouldn't have known otherwise. Furthermore, I take the view that I have developed my critical thinking. One of the things that I find really amazing is how much you can find out about one culture just by investigating where do their idioms come from.
Another thing I would like to point out is the fact that knowing how to speak the language can give you so many great opportunities in life, from studying abroad to actually getting a job in another country.

English hasn´t changed my way of thinking directly, but it has helped me to understand and know new things, like taking information for something from a english web, video or source, and some of these things made me change the way of seeing the world. So the language it self is not the most important for me, but all the culture that surrounds it.

Learning English involves not only memorizing vocabulary or studying grammar, but also getting to know about a different culture and new expressions. For example, there are sometimes I can't find a word to talk about a very specific thing in Spanish, but I do know one in English, so it is a bit of a mix. I like that, because my friends usually do it too, and it is a different way of communicating.
