SPOOKY SCIENCE FOR HALLOWEEN: CREEPY RED VAMPIRE BLOOD in Laboratory Techniques with @BioToi1

a STEM experiment with GREEN chlorophyll and an ultraviolet light torch

Today we have had the great opportunity to see Halloween coming very close to a Science lesson. How is that possible??? Chlorophyll, yes you may have had a taste of it from time to time in your chewing gum/toothpaste, etc. Well, the truth is that chlorophyll could be to a healthy person the same as blood would be to a Halloween vampire. I am not joking. The analogy sounds fictional but it is rather accurate, at a molecular level.  According to what both teachers explained (Ms. Victoria Merino and Ms. Toñi Caballero), the haemoglobin and the chlorophyll molecules are (to my surprise, to Jalen's and to every single student's surprise!) very, very similar and they perform similar functions in entirely different groups of organisms. Whereas chlorophyll revolves around magnesium, haemoglobin revolves around Iron.
