Observance of GUY FAWKES - BON FIRE NIGHT, an annual public day in the UK

"REMEMBER, remember the Fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot," goes the traditional rhyme.

The plot was centred around a group of Roman Catholic revolutionaries furious at the persecution of their faith in England.

Guy Fawkes Day is a festivity that celebrates the failure of Guy Fawkes and his accomplices' attempt to kill King James I. In 1605, they planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament while the Protestant king was inside, as to replace him with the Catholic monarch. Fortunately, they were discovered before they carried out their plan and they were arrested and later executed for treason. It is traditionally celebrated by lighting large bonfires and setting off fireworks, as well as making a guy, a homemade dummy resembling Guy Fawkes, to be thrown onto the bonfires.

I already knew about this British tradition because we have done activities related to it in previous years, but watching these videos has helped me remember some facts I had forgotten about.

  2. The Bonfire Night is an annual celebration in the UK. It celebrates the failure of Guy Fawkes and his accomplices in their plot to kill King James I. I didn´t know about it but I think is very beautiful this day with all the bonfires.

  3. It is a celebration that takes place mainly in the United Kingdom on the night of the 5 November. The celebration commemorates the failure of the 5 of November of 1605 attack, known as the Gunpowder Conspiracy, in which a faction of Catholics, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to destroy the Palace of Westminster, the seat of Parliament in London.

I didn't know about this tradition.

Bonfire Night is a celebration in which British people remember the failed attempt of Guy Fawkes to murder King James I in 1605. This festivity consists on throwing Guy Fawkes dummies to big bonfires. I already knew about this date as we had learnt about it in class in other years.
