SCIENCE WEEK ACTIVITY IN THE PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY LESSON, BY MARIA TERESA CABRERA 



This experiment is based on the following chemical reactions:


CH3COOH +NaHCO3↔CH3COONa + H2CO3


H2CO3(ac)↔CO2(g) +H2O(l)




PROTOCOL

You will need:

-Vinegar (acetic acid)

-Bicarbonate of soda.

-Dish soap

-Sand.

-Red and black food coloring

-Erlenmeyer flask.

-Plastic container.

-Spatula.

-Glass stirring rod.


Method:

1.Put three teaspoons of baking soda into the erlenmeyer flask.

2.Add some drops of food coloring and a good squeeze of dish soap.

3.Stir the mixture with a glass stirring rod.

4.Fill the plastic container with the sand,and introduce the erlenmeyer flask in it.

5.Pour the vinegar inside the erlenmeyer top.

6.Watch your volcano erupt.
