Childhood Lost. The Industrial Revolution #ESO4 #coteaching

The Childhood Lost Activity

Through listening activities, texts and pictures the students experienced a glimpse of what life was for children working in the factories during the 19th century. Besides reading a very realistic depiction of the accident suffered by a ten years old spinner girl killed by the machine, they had to  analyze several pictures of young girls in the mills, applying their senses - sight, sound, taste, smell and touch – to put themselves in the working girl’s shoes.

The aim of this activity was to put in practice their knowledge on the textile industry process and machinery, the factory system and the working conditions in factories. Furthermore, to empathize with those who lost their childhood and chances of education in the development of our consumerism society.
