Rules set expectations and let everyone know how they should behave and why. Fair rules shouldn't change a class identity and culture abruptly, but they should allow space for understanding, creativity, personality, and communication. It was such a great surprise to find out that my rules were exactly the same rules that some of my students had already agreed on as class rules. We rock!
