The TransAtlantic Slave Trade #BlackHistoryMonth #ESO3

Working on the Black History Month with our third graders.

Between 1650 and 1860, approximately 10 to 15 million enslaved people were transported from western Africa to the Americas. Most were shipped to the West Indias (Caribbean Islands), Central America, and South America.

We have worked on this topic with the help of educational and visual content from the BBC (Bitesize) and the TED-ed lessons. Not only by watching, but also using note-taking skills, combined with reading skills and gamification with Kahoot! Finally, we designed our own maps of the triangular trade between Europe, Africa and Americas between the 17th and 19th centuries. Moreover, like a flashforwards, we used the topic to observe Black History Month 2022, to add up more information and raise awareness as well as to appreciate black people that have significantly changed our world in the last years.
