We reckon writing is a process, not a product. Taking that into account, writing is understood as a process that involves bridging and distinct stages: pre-writing, drafting (using charts or a Venn diagram, for instance), while-writing: Making use of all the information and the scaffolding so as to expand ideas into a text; and post-writing: revising, and editing, if necessary.
