BRITISH CULTURE CROSS-CURRICULAR PROJECT
Music
As we have already stated in previous blog entries, a language is not just made up of isolated chunks of grammar, but it is a whole (spider) web where everything is connected and where everything matters. Culture matters in the Literacy Approach to learning. We learn a language, we learn a culture, we USE THE LANGUAGE, we can understand the culture: we keep our minds open. This is the rationale behind this perhaps somewhat ambitious Project on British Culture.
Our project covers all topics related to British culture. Music is paramount to the culture of the United Kingdom. If someone were asked to come up with the first thing that came to their mind about the UK, they would undoubtedly about music as well as Queen Elizabeth II or the Brexit. By researching the history of British music, our students have gained different insights into the social, political, and cultural contexts in which the music was created. Researching a selection of different groups also offers a window into the experiences, aspirations, and concerns of different generations, providing a deeper understanding of British society and its values.
Learning about the history of British music can provide valuable insights into British culture. Music has always been an important part of human expression and can serve as a reflection of societal values, beliefs, and experiences. British music, in particular, has had a significant impact on global music trends and has played a crucial role in shaping popular culture.
The history of British music is rich and diverse, encompassing various genres and styles that have evolved over the centuries. From classical composers to the bands of the 1960s, such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, British music has showcased immense talent and innovation as our students have researched about.
