LIBRARIANS FOR A DAY IN OUR ALQACLASS LIBRARY
A class library can offer numerous benefits to our students like having access to a wide range of resources, reference materials, enabling them to explore various subjects and engage in independent learning.
Apart from promoting a lifelong habit of reading for pleasure, it can also help to develop critical thinking and research skills as well as promoting creativity and imagination.
In order to get students involved in the class library, we first came across the importance of the work of a librarian by actually performing the work of a librarian, in other words: they learnt BY DOING:
Firstly we put them in charge of the resource management, making them responsible for curating and managing our AlqaClass Library's collection, We taught students how to find and use particular information effectively, helping them develop research skills, understand different information displayed in a book cover, so we guided our students in using a database, which in turn proved their technical expertise in ITC.
We conducted in our co-teaching literacy lesson some basic library orientations: Introducing the students to the class library through their direct involvement as librarians for a day.
We showed them how to use the cataloguing system, making them active participants of the class library setting up.
We taught our students how to locate the books, and handle materials responsibly.
Next academic year we will explain them the agreed library rules, the borrowing procedures, and expectations for maintaining the library space neat.
