The importance of reading aloud, the foundation for literacy development #alqareading Book Club #Moxie
We can't stress enough how important it is to read aloud. In fact, reading aloud is the foundation for literacy development.

The power of reading-aloud lies in the development of listening and thinking skills. Students come to understand text structures, vocabulary, concepts, etc.
Read-alouds also build background knowledge that students can apply when they read complex texts. Reading aloud demonstrates the relationship between the printed word and meaning. Students of any age can benefit from hearing an experienced reading of a wonderful book.
For these reasons, we have made sure to choose a good book of our students interests (it was not a random decision but a thorough one we made, the three teachers o literacy, together): we have tried to model thinking aloud during the reading, asking questions about the text. The idea is to have fun while using exciting expression and voices to practice intonation, stress patterns and rhythm!
