Let's give our teaching assistant (Auxiliar de Conversación) Ms. Monica de la Garza a warm welcome! She is from the US and she has joined our brand new #alqareading Literary Circle which is going to be implemented when Ms. de la Garza is with us in our literacy lessons, within the framework of our #alqareading book club. Whereas our #alqareading book club may focus more on reading for pleasure, discussing our chosen books in a recreational and creative manner, connecting it to certain aspects of the integrated curriculum subjects and establishing links to geographical and historical contexts; on the other hand, in our #alqareading Literary Circle we aim at delving deeper into literary analysis, exploring themes, characters, writing styles, in a more structured way.
The teachers in charge of this year's book club in Year 1 and year 2 Literacy, María José Díaz (years 1 and 2) and Marina Hurtado (Years 1, 2, 3 and 4) have decided to merge the two ways to approach a book, incorporating the Literary Circle when we are honoured with the presence of Ms. Monica de la Garza. She has already planned to introduce some discussion prompts that will encourage our students to practice different skills.
In Year 1 today she led guided vocabulary and comprehension activities that incorporated like creative speaking practice, like asking the students to choose a new name for the chapter they had read so the students were really engaged in a really relaxed approach to the book which our youngest students enjoyed so much!
Thank you, Monica for such an enjoyable Circle Opening!
By combining the relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere of our #alqareading book club with the analytical depth of our new literary circle, we aim at creating a space where students can both enjoy reading and develop a deeper appreciation for literature.
