Cross-level activity in #alqareading Book Club: The Hate You Give #alqareading

YOU WILL ENJOY ALQAREADING WITH A LITTLE BIT OF HELP FROM A FORMER STUDENT: PAULA BOTE ANDRADA

We are enjoying reading The Hate U Give. No question about that. In order to help you understand and practice how to write a biography text and how to mention the sources you used in your research, you are going to write a short biography about her and I guess, you'll reach a better understanding of the book. Consider the main points about the author, her life and strengths, anecdotes, quotes, etc. We will be working on this in class. Once we have finished.

In an inclusive classroom where some students are so far apart in language skills that they cannot all work on the same level, we should tend to use the UDL and adapt the final product to their needs. There are ways to help all students progress, however disparate their levels are. One activity that works well across various levels is having a former student, older student presenting a similar task in class and responding to the youngest students questions.

In this way of working, let's find out about the author, Angie Thomas with a so-called multi-level activity. Our former student, Paula Bote Andrada (1st year of Bachillerato will present her model essay and you will compare it to your own. You may want to enrich/enlarge it. Paula has been working on the biography of the book with her English teacher Fausto Ferrero.

Why did Angie Thomas have a hard childhood?

What did Thomas like as a teenager apart from writing?

What event caused the author to start writing The Hate U Give?

Who is a person Angie Thomas looks up to and inspired the title of the book?

Why did she decide to write Nic Blake and the remarkables?
