Learning how to consider different perspectives (and opinions) in the news #empathy #project #pbw #pbl
A Throw back to a first term great literacy co-teaching lesson (Raquel and Marina) on how important it is to consider things from different perspectives. Teaching our students to consider different perspectives in the news is not just about understanding current events and affairs; it is about equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to navigate the complexities of the world and contribute positively to society.
PROJECT 1: Travelling
Soft Skills: empathy. Considering different perspectives promotes cultural awareness and empathy. It allows students to understand that people from different backgrounds may interpret events or issues differently based on their experiences, culture, and values. This fosters a more inclusive and tolerant society.
Learning to consider different perspectives also enhances communication skills. Students develop the ability to express their own opinions clearly and respectfully, even when faced with differing views. This skill is crucial for constructive dialogue and collaboration.
A well-informed citizenry is essential for a functioning democracy. By exposing students to diverse perspectives, educators empower them to make informed decisions and participate actively in civic life. This includes engaging in discussions, voting, and advocating for issues they believe in. Let's see what they think 🤔
All in all, considering different perspectives is a key skill that not only enhances our students' critical thinking abilities but also prepares them to be informed and responsible citizens in our diverse and complex world.
