LISTENING SKILLS TASK (Years 1 & 2)

LISTENING SKILLS TASK (Years 3 and 4)

Reading: INTRODUCTION

Whether it’s the persistent hum of traffic, the unwanted distraction of background noise, or the disrupting sound of construction work, modern life is noisy

International Noise Awareness Day highlights the negative impact noise can have on our lives and how we can combat it.

Peaceful environments have been shown not only to improve well-being, but also to aid recovery from illness and injury through increased rest and relaxation

On International Noise Awareness Day, I would like to encourage you to think about the unnecessary noise in your life and how to reduce it.

SPEAKING AND WRITING. WONDER AND PONDER about...

1. UNNECESSARY NOISES, DISAGREABLE NOISES, ANNOYING NOISES in your daily life.

2. PLEASANT/AGREEABLE NOISES: THE SOUNDS OF MY LIFE: what are the most agreeable noises around me? Think about the sounds that evoke feelings of peace, relaxation, and contentment, enriching your experience of everyday life.

Exploring Solutions
PROBLEM-SOLVING:
WONDER AND PONDER ABOUT the different ways we can reduce unnecessary noise in our daily lives, for example, at home, at school, etc.

SITUACIÓN DE APRENDIZAJE: “Silence the Noise: Becoming Noise Pollution Activists”

LEARNING SITUATION:

You are going to become an activist, a noise pollution campaigner that works for an NGO (non-governmental organisation) devoted to hearing loss and mental health in adolescents.
In your new job for that NGO you have been asked to design a flyer/poster in which you must promote awareness about how noise can affect your hearing, your mood and your mental health for a campaign named Silence the Noise. You may want to take this very basic and simple one in the link as an example.
Together, our voices but not our noises will resonate and we will pledge for a quieter world.

This hair cell classroom activity, using pipe cleaners, demonstrates that loud sounds can damage the sensitive hair cells in the inner ear needed for hearing.

In this lesson we will deal with a classroom presentation to show you about the causes and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss.
