Exploring the World with an Atlas #coteaching

In today's co-teaching lesson...

Objectives:

- To locate countries, mountains, rivers, and cities using an atlas.

- To develop skills in reading and interpreting maps.

- To foster curiosity about world geography.

Materials:

Physical atlases (one per group of four students).

TASK-BASED LEARNING:

We have shown our students some examples of how to locate different elements: countries, cities, rivers, etc. In the atlases.

Also, we have highlighted the importance of the legend and the index in the atlas for finding information efficiently.

The we were ready for the group Activity in which the class has been organised into different groups of four students.

Each group has been provided with an atlas and a list of locations to find.

Our students have been searching for the locations in the atlas.

In the next session, we will review the answers with the whole class and ask our students what difficulties they encountered while using the atlas.

We have also planned some METACOGNITION work: a final Reflection in which our students will be asked to share the most interesting thing they learnt in the two sessions devoted to this task.

Finally, the evaluation process will be carried out via observation: can they correctly use the index of the atlas, and if they locate the places accurately?
