Today we have carried out an engaging revision activity for first graders to reinforce their knowledge of landforms and bodies of water. Here's how it has worked out:
The class has been divided into two groups, each of which had some roles assigned within.
I have prepared two sets of cutouts, one for each group containing the names of different landforms and bodies of water such as mountains, valleys, rivers, oceans, lakes, etc. and containing also definitions and key concepts related to these landforms and bodies of water.
Their task was to match each landform or body of water to its correct definition or concept.
This hands-on activity has been highly effective as it reinforced both the concept identification and conceptual understanding of landforms and bodies of water in a collaborative setting.
Fast finishers were offered a wordsearch puzzle where the hidden words were various landforms (e.g., mountain, plateau, canyon) and bodies of water (e.g., river, ocean, pond).
In my view, this wordsearch revision activity adds variety, promotes engagement, and reinforces key vocabulary in a fun, interactive way.
