In this activity, the students will learn how helping people and the environment, like in James’ adventure, connects to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2030). In this sense, this activity will simplify the SDGs for our first graders by tying them to memorable parts of the story in "James and the Giant Peach" while encouraging at the same time both, creativity and collaboration via teamwork.
In the story, James, with help from his friends, solves problems like finding food, working as a team, and taking care of each other, so it will be a feasable task for the students and in addition they will be working on critical thinking skills.
For example: The peach gave them food (Goal 2: Zero Hunger).
The students will design a giant peach tree picture and then they will match a set of SDG mini-cards to parts of the story they have already read. For example: "James shared the peach!" → Match to Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).
