As we have stated before in different entries of this blog, graphic organisers are powerful tools for helping students engage with historical content, particularly when studying complex topics like for example, Romanesque Art, in today's lesson. These visual aids help our students categorise information and better memorise key concepts.
Graphic organisers can bridge history content and literacy skills by encouraging students to summarise, label, and describe aspects of Romanesque Art accurately. In this sense, our history lessons benefit once a week from co-teaching techniques: both the specialist teacher, and the literacy adviser play a vital role, the former by aiding content acquisition, the latter, by supporting students' comprehension and expression of ideas. Together, our history teacher, Susana, and our literacy adviser, Marina, can guide our students in using these tools to enhance both their historical understanding and their ability to communicate their insights effectively.
