Mapping the characters
According to e-reading, well-developed characters are like people: they have traits, opinions, and motivations. Characterisations are the methods by which story tellers reveal the traits of characters. There are two types of characterisations: direct and indirect. Direct characterisation is when a narrator or character describes another character directly. Indirect characterisation is when character traits are revealed through a character's behaviour.
Recognising these characterisations is a higher order thinking skill, whereby you, as a student must make an inference based on textual details.
