The students work in groups and prepare a topic in depth (they encounter information during a lesson or two) and then present it to their classmates. The class has some questions ready to ask after each of the presentations. Every topic is different so they cover a whole didactic unit.
This approach to teaching history has many benefits because it helps students learn at their own pace; they take responsibility for their learning; and of course a higher level benefit is that this promotes an increased level of collaboration among students.
