PBL and the Literacy Approach. Wonder and Kindness 2.0: Changing the World with Words and Wires

Project Title:

CHOOSE ONE PROJECT TITLE (the one that fits best your project choice)

  1. Kindness 2.0: Changing the World with Words and Wires.
  2. Tech for Kindness: A 21st-Century Response to Wonder

Theme: How can we use technology to create a more inclusive and compassionate world—just like the one Auggie deserves?

Project Development

CHOOSE ONE from these three creative options to explore the themes of —empathy, inclusion, and couragethrough a modern lens: the use of technology. The final product will be shared in a VIDEO , where you CANNOT READ BUT TALK (READING WILL BE PENALISED), and  YOUR OWN ideas using key content vocabulary.

Learning Goals of Our Project

You will:

  1. Analyse and connect key themes from Wonder to real-life issues.
  2. Use technology (arrange, explain, label, plan, presentation) to organise and present your ideas inspired by the book Wonder.
  3. Apply your grammar knowledge in meaningful contexts.
  4. Collaborate and use technology to propose a modern solution for a social challenge, focusing on the world of Wonder.

Project Choices (Differentiated by UDL Principles)

OPTION 1. Design 3–5 “Kindness Artifacts” inspired by events or characters in Wonder. Each artifact could be a drawing, a digital drawing, meme, infographic, or collage using tech tools (e.g., Canva, Google Drawings, Padlet).

  • Select scenes or quotes from WONDER, then  visual elements to reflect each theme.
  • Illustrate your artwork with a title and explanation.
  • Use content words like  (bullying ideas),  (tech tools), and  (your mission).
  • Share your gallery and explain your design decisions IN YOUR VIDEO.

(Visual, spatial, artistic expression; scaffolded planning sheets for students who need structure).

OPTION 2. "A Kind and WONDERful  Podcast for Radio Edu" (Onda Al-Qázeres Radio Station) Record a  (3–5 min) reflecting on how the book WONDER teaches us about empathy and how technology (e.g., apps, social media, podcasts themselves) can help spread that message today.

  • Plan your script and present your points clearly.
  • Include real-life examples of how tech is used to solve attitudes.
  • Link these examples with specific moments in Wonder.
  • Your podcast will be published in Onda Al-Qázeres Radio Station for real.
  • Although this is an audio-based output, it needs to be in a VIDEO-FORMAT. In addition, you must do the scaffolding with graphic organisers or script templates.

OPTION 3. Create  an app that would help someone like Auggie navigate school life or make friends. This can be drawn on paper, made with Google Slides, or built in a simple app design tool like MarvelApp or Figma (beginner templates).

In your VIDEO presentation you must mention:

  • Your app sections/screens and their function.
  • The user experience: what problem does your app solve?
  • When can August use this app? what for? any specific part of his story?
  • How your app makes a positive impact using "Wonder" as your inspiration.
  • Pitch your app to the class as a “Tech for Kindness” startup.

(Logical-mathematical thinking, tech design, optional peer coaching for low-tech students).

Final Deliverables

YOU all must:

  • Use natural speech (plan, explain, present). NO READING IS ALLOWED.
  • Integrate WONDER into your explanations or descriptions.
  • Present your work IN VIDEO FORMAT.
