Pre-Reading "Skellig": introducing the themes and Designing Your Own #AlQaBritish Book Club Cover (Year 2)

  Pre-Reading "Skellig":

Introduction to the themes

Designing Your Own #AlQaBritish Book Club Cover

Creating a cover is a way of “claiming” the book. It transforms the reading experience from just another assignment into their story journey. When students design a cover, they’re saying: This is my version of this book. I’m a co-creator here, not just a consumer. Also, it activates imagination & curiosity (the students may wonder: Who are these characters? What’s going to happen? What’s the tone (mystery, comedy, drama)?. They start to make predictions using their creativity. Finally, through the pre-reading activities they have already done in their Literacy lesson (exploring vocabulary and themes) suddenly they can crystallise the imagined world in that cover.

Let’s face it: a blank notebook page can feel cold. But a personalised, colourful, imaginative cover? That’s an invitation. Every time they open their Literacy notebook, the cover they designed will greet them, reminding them of their anticipation, predictions, and personal stake in the reading journey.
