Project: Inside the Giant Peach: Helping James to pack. What Would You give him for his suitcase?

#AlQaReading Club: James and the Giant Peach

Grouping: Teams of 3–4 students

Final Product: A 3–4 minute oral presentation per group

This project encourages self-expression, imagination, and empathy because every adventure, even the peach-shaped ones, begins with who we are.

After such a dramatic loss, like the loss of his parents, James must move to his evil aunts' house. He is feeling really sad but he hopes to find a new life. Your mission is to imagine that you are

  1. helping him pack but you are NOT going with him.
  2. helping him pack and you are joining him.

Each member of the group will choose one meaningful object (one per member) to take inside the suitcase. Then you’ll prepare a short oral presentation explaining why those items matter for the journey and what they reveal about you.

To work on this project, read the instructions given in class and in google classroom.

Learning Goals

  1. Communication competence: Express ideas clearly in spoken English.
  2. Personal and social competence: Reflect on one’s own identity, emotions, and values when selecting meaningful objects.
  3. Cultural and literary awareness: Connect the themes of the book (change, belonging, courage) to personal experiences.
  4. Teamwork and co-creation: Plan and deliver a presentation collaboratively, distributing roles and tasks.
  5. Learning-to-learn competence: Use multimodal supports (visuals, notes, objects) to communicate effectively.
