What is the difference between advertising and propaganda?

Understanding this difference is fundamental to your project: The Anti-Propaganda Propagandists. Every day, we’re swimming in a sea of messages. From pop-up ads on our phones and influencer posts on Instagram to news articles and political speeches, it feels like everyone is trying to tell us something. It’s easy to lump all these messages together, but they’re not all the same. They have different goals, different methods, and different people behind them. Specifically, three terms often get confused: advertising, publicity, and propaganda. While all three are forms of communication designed to influence us, they operate in very different ways. Understanding the difference is like getting a backstage pass to the world of mass communication. It helps us see the motive behind the message, making us smarter consumers, savvier media users, and more informed citizens.

This brings us to the most loaded term of the three: propaganda. If advertising wants your money and publicity wants your trust, propaganda wants your mind.
