Reading Assignment: James and the Giant Peach, pages 1–35



Your Mission: You will become both a Word Wizard and a Storyteller Illustrator! Using the worksheet provided in class, you will:

  1. Read pages 1–35 carefully.
    1. Draw what happens in these pages — include important events, characters, and settings.
    2. Add notes and vocabulary from the story to explain your drawing.
    3. Show that you understand what’s happening in the story.
    4. Use new or interesting words you found in the text.


    Your Work Must Show that:

    • ✅ You use story vocabulary correctly.
    • ✅ You show creativity and imagination in your drawing.
    • ✅ You make clear connections between your drawing, notes, and vocabulary.

    Tips for Success

    1. Creativity & Originality. Be imaginative! Add your own creative touches while keeping the story accurate.
    2. Understanding of the Story. Include key moments and details from pages 1–35.
    3. Connection Between Drawing & Text. Make sure your notes and vocabulary match what you drew.
    4. Use of Vocabulary. Pick strong, interesting words from the story and use them correctly.
    5. Effort & Presentation. Do your best work, neat, colourful, and complete.


    PLEASE, REMEMBER: Your goal is to show that you not only read the story but also understand and can creatively retell it through your art and words.
