CHALLENGE 2: Gender Equality (CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!) GLOBAL GOALS AGENDA

Gender Equality: Five Challenges Project

This challenge will help our students to understand what gender (in)equality looks like where we live.

POSTER BY MIGUEL ÁNGEL DURÁN CASARES, ESO1

Here are some results of their findings and their analyses

CARLOTTA IGLESIAS, ESO1

AITANA, ESO1

HÉCTOR ÁLVAREZ
After looking at the result of my tasks, the analysis said that there's still a great inequality between men and women. Little by little we will change that but we will need the support of a lot of people and governments.

ÁNGEL GARCÍA GARRIDO

As you can see in my results, there’s a big difference in jobs between men and women, with a violent ratio of 17:88 is undeniable the unequal situation that we’re living right now in our society although there are people that still affirm that there’s no injustices and inequalities, that’s why we have to keep fighting for this situation to end, we have to make them understand that the fight is not over, of course, in a peaceful and respectful way.

Alejandro García Garrido

IRENE CAMPOS

From my results I observe that there is still an imbalance in society, the majority of people who represent us are men and should be egalitarian. We must support and trust women more, they are people just like men.
For the single fact of being a woman we have fewer opportunities than men, for example when looking for work, women are asked if they plan to get pregnant, however men do not, assuming that who has to take care of the baby is the woman.

DAVID PALACIOS KRENZ

In my results I can see a clearly visible inequality in jobs, women aren't taken into account in many jobs.

AGUSTÍN CORTÉS

I think the difference between men and women it is too big the men has three times more percentage than women this is because some people still dispage the potential of women and they can also do the same work with the same efficiency as a men and we have to show this persons that women it is much than just the house cleaner and they are as good as a men and both of as has the same rights,”we are human-beings, no matter the gender”.

Pablo Luis

GLORIA GONZÁLEZ SKENDER

Seeing the results of my task, I can see that there is still a lot of inequality. I thought that we were almost balanced (between women and men), but we are not. In my results, you can observe that men have the triple power than women. From my point of view, I think that there is still a lot of work and fight until we get the total equality.

CLARA DÍAZ
I still believe that although things in the status of position between men and women have improved a lot over the years, we must continue trying to achieve more things because there is still a lot of inequality in these cases., For CERTAIN things people tend to trust men more than women.

#ESO4

IRENE MERAYO URBANO

My ratio is 40:60, which, in comparison to most people’s, is quite fair. Aside from this, analyzing this data makes us realize that there is an inequality, especially amongst higher positions, which should lead us to reflect and try to find the roots to this situation. Has it always been like this? Yes, in fact, it has been worse, but I’m glad we are slowly but surely improving. Does this mean we should stop fighting? Absolutely not. We are closer and closer every day to reaching complete equality, therefore, we can’t tear apart all of the progress we have made through many generations. Maybe you, reading this, aren’t aware of the difficulties many women struggle with when finding jobs, such as the risk of being fired if they get pregnant, or just being underestimated by their peers, which can make them incredibly self-conscious (we can’t forget about the mental side of this). In conclusion, my message is that we have to keep advocating for equality, supporting different organizations and fundraisings dedicated to this topic, so that every single woman, all around the world, has the same opportunities as any man.

DIANA GARCÍA FIDALGO

I can infer from my results that the quantity of women holding important, influential positions nowadays is generally smaller than that of men. This is a situation that we must change as soon as possible, for everyone to have equal opportunities regardless of their gender. Even though I know it isn't easy, we must do everything that's in our hands to raise awareness and create a fair society. Something that we can do as individuals is to talk to people in our area and make them see the inequality that surrounds us, supporting our words with facts. Moreover, this is a topic that ought to be discussed in schools and educational centres all over the world, as to instruct young generations in this problem. All in all, I take the view that there is a lot we can do to help this cause if we set ourselves up for it.

SOFÍA VASCO

Based on my results, I think that society is starting to change so that there is gender equality.  Little by little, we are moving forward and important positions in companies, associations,… are being carried out by women and people do not see it as strange.  Fortunately, Spain is a country that generally makes the effort to achieve this equality. However, there are other countries that still have a long way to go and that saddens me.

LUNA

As you can see in my results, there is a society full of discrimination. Sometimes we think we have reached fair equality between men and women, but it is not true. All the important political positions or even in local works are mostly given to men. This is not logical, as we have shown that we live in an open-minded society where everybody is equal.
In conclusion, we must change this situation to live in a better world where everybody is important, no matter their gender.

HUGO

I personally think that each person gets involved with more people of their same sex, rather than the opposite. For example: Normally, a boy listens more to a boy singer meanwhile a girl listens more to a girl singer. Apart from the fact that there may be more or less people of one sex working in the music industry.

#ESO1

CARLA SALOMÉ BORRELLA

In my results, I’ve noticed that there are huge differences between both genders. In the table there are more crosses in the men’s side than in the women’s one. That’s not fair. There should be a balance. In the other sheet there is also a big difference. These unjustices are so normalized that we don’t even realize about it. Women’s work should have the same appreciation than men’s work. We need to keep working on this. Let’s start treating women like men. Let’s start paying the same amount of money to both genders.

CARLOTA GÓMEZ SALADO

MARÍA

AITANA ROSADO FLORES

My results are majority for males than females, approximately the double. I think in our society there are at the top of jobs Males than females but not  really men are better than women, in my opinion they are the same. Women can do the same jobs than men but women don't have the same opportunities.

CARLOTTA IGLESIAS

IRENE BORREGO

In the results, it is seen that women and men don't have the same jobs and that doesn't seem fair to me because they should do the same. I will change so that women have the same rights as men. In CONCLUSION, I think this has to change so that we all have the same jobs.

Miguel Ángel Durán Casares

AMANDA

IRIA
Once my analysis has been done, I have  been able to verify that men occupy more  space in society than women, but that little by  little this is getting better and better. We are  making women equal to men and I think that  soon we will all be treated equally.

CARLOS VÁZQUEZ

Analyzing my results, it is obviously that women and men aren't still in equal conditions. In general, women haven´t so influential jobs, because unluckily, many people think that they aren´t qualifyied to held this types of jobs. I think we can create a more equal society, by doing small actions between all,. It is true that the rights of the women has improved a lot in the last century, but as this results show, we have´t still achieved an equal society.

IRENE PRIETO

In my results I can clearly see that even in the 21st century we are still unable to achieve gender equality.

We have to keep fighting to be able to have the same rights.

Érika Álvarez Vilariño

CARLOS HOLGUÍN

My results are unbalanced because the maJority are male people and they prefer to hire more men than women and that should change

ELENA MARTÍN CAVA

Analysing my results, we can see that women and men don’t have the same conditions. We are in the 1st century, society is very advanced, so we have to continue fighting so that women and men have the same rights.

Leire García

I analyse my results as a little unbalanced, between female and male. In my case the majority was for males, and in almost all cases it is like this but if we work together we can get the same results for females and males. I can infer from my results, for example, that not only can I try to change the things that depend on me, but also I can raise awareness to people around me, like my family, friends, etc.

Well, my results say that we are still in an unequal society, the double of the charges are held by men over women. We still have things to improve. There are lots of things to do.

  2. My results said that nowadays there are more men in higher positions in society. We need to change it.

Looking at my results you can see the difference between each one. We need to improve more since almost everywhere men hold top positions. If we work together we can improve it!!

    1. In my opinión, my results are quite good because if we compare how many important jobs women had along the time, this would be a very big change. It is true I have more men in my analysis than women, but at least I have more women than a year ago.

  14. I think female and men are common in my life.

  15. The results from my survey dictated that the large majority of influential people in my area are men. To be exact 73% of them. And, sadly, this is a huge number, considering that in order for equality to exist, the ratio should be 50/50.

But, what can I learn from this? By filling in this survey I have been able to realize that in Spain we are even further from equality than what I thought, which is very concerning. The “bright” side is that by knowing this information, we can see how big the real issue is and get a tiny step closer to the solution, since the first step for solving any problem is acknowledging its existence.

There are numerous changes that our society has to implement for equality, which is something that has already started to happen in recent years, but is far from done. As far as I am concerned, the root of the problem is how people’s brains have normalized some thoughts or opinions that -whether they realize or not- are very sexist. The way this can be avoided is by educating everyone in a fair and equal way and talking about how big this problem is even in the 21st century. Regardless of what has been mentioned, a large number of other larger changes will need to be introduced to contribute to the solution.

To conclude, we still have a long way until we reach equality. It will not be easy, it probably will not happen as soon as we would wish, but I am sure sometime we will get to a world in which men and women are equal.
