OUR FIVE CHALLENGES this academic year: Which ones did you accept? Global Goals Agenda 2030 #sustainabledevelopmentgoals

GLOBAL GOALS: FIVE CHALLENGES YOU ACCEPTED THIS ACADEMIC YEAR

If you remember, earlier this academic year, all of our students started to accept a series of challenges which are connected to different Sustainable Development Goals established in the 2030 Agenda. They are greatly concerned about what is destroying our environment, our social justice, our ethical concepts of equality, etc. and for that reason our students are willing to create a healthier, more sustainable, and more just society. They are part of the solution, we all are. They know it. Awareness is essential and that is just one of the reasons why we have been working (and we still are) on the 2030 Global Goals Agenda (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs), like we did last year. It is absolutely paramount to work on it across the curriculum.

Below you will find a link to samples of all the challenges. The students who accepted the five challenges will be awarded with an official certificate.

Challenge number 2: GENDER EQUALITY

Challenge number 3. ARTIVISM

Challenge number 4: SOCIAL JUSTICE

Challenge number 5VOICES FOR CHANGE

EMMA WATSON INTRODUCES THE GLOBAL GOALS AGENDA 2030

ANGELA QUIJADA, ESO3

IRENE MERAYO URBANO, ESO4

Emma Watson talked about how we have to take action. Fighting global inequality, ending extreme poverty and respecting our planet are just some of the many objectives we should achieve by 2030. The video set three basic concepts: invent, innovate, and campaign, and also gave examples of each of them, stating how we are all able to collaborate. Even if you don’t have much resources, a small local action can have a big and great impact.

Global goals are a group of 17 objectives that 193 world leaders have committed to. They are meant to be achieved by 2030, and some examples are: ending gender inequality, giving every child an education or ensuring peace for everyone all over the world.

ELENA MARTÍN CAVA, ESO2

Emma Watson's video said that we have a mission to complete by 2030, we need to fight inequality, extreme poverty and respect our planet. If we focus on fighting these things where we live, we can make a big difference. There are three ways to help, invent, innovate and campaign.
Some young people are doing many things to change the world like:
In Turkey, because there are many countries with pollution from petroleum-based plastics, a girl invented a new natural plastic made from banana skins. It’s cheap, easy to recycle and can be made in the kitchen.
In India, because the population is growing quickly, all the wealth waste and the water scares, a boy invented a toilet that save a fifty percent of water (a regular toilet uses six liters of water it’s time it’s waste, this is too much)
In North Philadelphia, because we can be an innovator, be creative and think about how we can improve the way we live, a group of urban innovators in a dangerous run-down neighborhood built a thriving farm where they grow fresh food and now is supporting hundreds of local homes and restaurants. Life growing farms have transformed the community and made it healthier and safer.
In Nigeria, where the population is growing faster than in other countries in the world, a group of girls are saving a big problem: the rubbish. Lots of people get sick because rubbish isn’t cleaned properly, so they create a phone app that reports waste and can be taken away safely. They do this because sometimes a healthier world is a great idea.
On an island, because we can be a campaigner, two sisters are on a mission to stop plastic bags. Millions of plastic bags and the creation of this blew the water and high marine life, so they convinced their governor to ban the plastic bags.
In Syria, many girls had to marry too young and they had to give up their education, so a girl in a refugee camp thought this was a big mistake and she convinced parents to keep their daughters in a school and not make the married young.
Many young people everywhere are changing the world for good, so we just need to care, get creative and collaborate. If we all do that in 2030 we can really make the global goals a reality. Some global goals are:
  • No poverty
  • Quality education
  • Gender equality
  • Climate action
  • Life below water
  • Life on land
  • Peace and justice

IRIA, ESO1

MARIA GRANADO, ESO1

Global Goals is an agreement by leaders so that in 2030 the world will improve, will be more ecological and fair. We can all collaborate just a little since the planet depends on us. Global Goals tries to stop gender inequality, poverty, climate change, try to increase peace and justice... With small gestures such as recycling, greater education and other aspects, it can be achieved.

IRENE BORREGO, ESO1
