LESSON PLAN:
Because Halloween is coming, in our co-teaching lesson, we are going to explore ancient (and modern) religious beliefs regarding divinity, mortality, and the afterlife. Using several texts we will examine Ancient Greek mythology, detailing how the Greeks worshipped numerous anthropomorphic deities, structured the Underworld under the rule of Hades and Persephone, and used traditional stories like the myth of Demeter to explain natural phenomena such as the changing seasons.
We will also outline the specific punishments faced by famous mythological figures and the customary ways families honoured their deceased relatives.
Additionally, Susana, our specialist teacher will explain how these polytheistic traditions sharply contrast with Christian eschatology, by explaining how believers understand the afterlife, salvation, and eternal life in Heaven through the teachings and sacrifice of Jesus in Christianity.
