WRITING A SUMMARY: "James and the Giant Peach" Book Club

Book Club Reading Task: Chapters 21–24

Read chapters 21, 22, 23 and 24 carefully. Then, write a short summary of these chapters on a separate piece of paper. Your summary must answer this question: What are chapters 21–24 about?

When you finish:

1. Take a clear picture of your summary.

2. Upload the picture to Google Classroom.

3. Hand in your paper copy to your teacher for correction.

Remember: How to write a good summary

Use the FINGERS summary method to help you organise your ideas:

  1. Write one sentence explaining what these chapters are mainly about.
  2. Say who the main character or characters are.
  3. Explain what the character or characters want.
  4. Describe the big problem or conflict in these chapters.
  5. Explain how the problem changes, improves or is solved.
  6. Say how these chapters end.

Important reminders

  • Use your own words.
  • Write clearly and neatly.
  • Do not copy long sentences from the book.
  • Check your spelling, capital letters and full stops before handing it in.
