Exhibition: Journeys to Safety: Our School Exhibition on Migration, Asylum and Refuge

This week, a modest exhibition has been on display in the main hall of our school, IES Al-Qázeres, showcasing the final products created by 3rd-year ESO students from the MEFP-British Council Programme. The exhibition is part of a project commemorating World Refugee Day. Although this date is officially marked in June, we decided to bring the exhibition forward because the students will soon be taking part in a language immersion trip to Ireland and needed to present their work before leaving. The exhibition will come to an end on Monday, once the students have finished carrying out their role as “tour guides”.

The products on display are the final outcome of a multidisciplinary project based on the SEM model of curriculum enrichment for all students. The project focuses on migration, asylum and refuge.

Some of the pieces are directly linked to our #alqaReading book club and to the novel we have read this year with the group: "The Boy at the Back of the Class", which we warmly encourage you to read.

For the remaining products, students used documentary sources such as UN data, including its Instagram page dedicated to refugees, and Amnesty International, as well as the contents covered in class during the second and third terms. They also drew on the film "The Swimmers" and on some of the books that have been recommended in the exhibition itself.

Thank you to everyone who came to visit the exhibition. It has been a valuable opportunity to help students engage with a complex reality through reflection, empathy and a commitment to human rights.
