This academic year we have tried to get one point across during the co-teaching lessons: to highlight the importance of scientific literacy in making informed decisions for the planet’s future.
During these past few months, in particular, thanks to this project (Noise Awareness in Our World) our students have explored the physics of sound and the environmental impact of noise pollution.
Our students have also learnt about the scientific mechanics of longitudinal waves and hearing ranges while engaging in a project-based curriculum that connected excessive noise to public health (World Health Organisation) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
In the last two sessions, we have highlighted in class how anthropogenic noise (human-caused) disrupts bird biodiversity and stress levels, urging a transition from awareness to school community activism.
By promoting reusable systems and noise-reduction strategies, the project final outcome encourages a more sustainable and quieter world.
Here is the project progress sequence we have followed, being now at the ACT section in which the students will turn into Noise Activists.
