Inventions and Devices of the Second Industrial Revolution that Changed Daily Life #ESO4 #History

When was the zipper invented? Who created lifts/elevators and escalators? For how long have rayon and other artificial fibres been available? What was the first device to record human voice? What was the first wireless communication system? Who developed the first painkiller? When were x-rays developed? What inventions allowed skyscrapers to be built? When did going to the cinema/movies and drinking Cola become popular?

Together with so useful machines and developments like Tesla’s induction motor, Otto’s four stroke engine, Siemen’s Dynamo, Edison’s light bulb, or Goodyear’s vulcanized rubber. a lot of new devices sprang in the second half of the 19th Century that made our daily life easier: refrigerators, typewriters, gramophones ... let alone the airplane or the automobile but also the telephone.

The 4th grade students help us to get to know some of the inventions and of course their inventors through pictures, short definitions, and useful videos. View the Padlet below to see our collaborative work.
